Introduction to Me

Hello fellow bloggers! My name is Hayley and I am a senior at OU. I am a Letters Major with a focus on Constitutional Studies. I also am minoring in Spanish and Classical Culture. I am a Pre-Law Student so I will be attending law school next fall. I am graduating in December.

Now that we have all the formalities out of the way let’s talk about some fun things. I am from the great state of Texas and the great state of California. In elementary school I was referred to as the “Valley Girl Hick”. Although now I claim “Sooner” as my official title, it is still nice to remember my past heritage.

I have a little sister and a little brother. We come from a family of doctors and nurses, so of course it is fitting that I am going to be an attorney, my sister is going to be an actress and my brother will do something with art.

I’m involved in a few organizations on campus. The ones that I am most involved in are Camp Crimson and Sooners Helping Sooners. I love how the organizations have really helped me get involved on campus through the years. Now that I am about to leave OU I really feel like I made an impact on campus.

A fun fact about me that everyone knows is that I am a big Kenny Chesney fan. I might have been misleading when I said I am a big fan, I truly mean his number one fan. I saw him twice this summer in two different states within two days because why not? I also enjoy other artist and music. I love collecting autographs and meeting artist, so the next musician on my list is David Cook, who I will be meeting in November.

I have a pet bird. He is named after Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind. My bird is precious but has an extremely broken beak. No one thought he would live after his accident, but he is now almost 6 years old. He also knows how to whistle the song “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” He hits his head against the cage to make the clapping noise, I promise he does not have brain damage… I think.

But that is a pretty quick summary of who I am. I’m a very busy and active person. Between applying to law school, activities, class, and other commitments I am now beginning to plan a wedding! Which I am incredibly excited about.  Thanks for taking the time to read this!

  1. Oh, Hayley, that LOVE sculpture is such a great addition to campus, isn't it? And you got engaged there: wow! They should have a special gallery or album for all the students to share their special photos and moments from that new beautiful new addition to the campus sculptures.

And how cool about Kenny Chesney! That is kind of like my quest to have Twitter conversations with my favorite writers and musicians. This summer, I was totally blissed out because Maati Baani and Shankar Tucker were being interviewed on a radio show in New York City, and I was listening to the show live (streaming), and Shankar was tweeting during part of the show, and so I tweeted him a question, and then Nirali (the singer from Maati Baani) thanked me out loud there on the air for all my support, sharing their music with my network online... OH, I was so happy! We were connected in real time not just over Twitter, but over the good old-fashioned radio waves. When I first started listening to Indian music at YouTube, I never thought about contacting the musicians, but now I think it is so cool to see how different musicians have their different online communities at different sites, how people interact... and I get to find out about so much great new music this way too!

Anyway, now I think I will have to go listen to some Kenny Chesney... and maybe some week you will want to do the YouTube Tech Tip and add one of your favorite songs to the post here!

  2. Hi Haley! Nice to 'meet' you. I noticed you said you were focusing on constitution law and thought you might find it interesting that I just spent a month at James Madison's Montpelier doing an archaeological dig in the South Yard. The South Yard is where the domestic enslaved community lived and worked. It was really interesting to hear and physically learn about the interactions between the Madison's and their enslaved help.

I'm not a country fan, but I do know who Kenny Chesney is (I went through a phase about 20 years ago LOL) and I have always loved his song "All I Need to Know" :)

  3. Hello! Congrats on the engagement! I'm planning a wedding as well. I understand music loves. Growing up, I had the biggest crush/love toward TSwift. I am now a big fan of electronic music. Will you be going to OU Law? Have you found a venue yet for your wedding? It's such a fun and exciting process! We've chosen a place which is a huge relief. We also aren't getting married till July of next year.

  4. Hello Halley!

My tin brother is studying constitutional law and is double majoring in Spanish! He is not sure if he wants to go to Law school, but I think that is a really awesome ambition of yours! Congratulations on graduating this Fall! Like you I am a big fan of live musicians. My first concert I ever went to was a Dixie Chick concert... my love for country (among other genres) has only grown since then. I think my favorite concert I have ever been to was a Mumford & Sons! Great live performance.

California is a place I dream about living in! I am planning on moving to the West coast after I graduate in the Spring! Good luck with your semester! Cheers!

  5. Congratulations on the engagement! Planning a wedding is truly fun (and terrifying). I got married in 2013, and I'm about to be a maid of honor in another next year! Your bird sounds like one that I would like to meet. My husband is from California and it is now my second home. I absolutely love the state (except the traffic). Also, Kenny Chesney is amazing. If I ever see him I will make sure to tell him how big of a fan you are.

  6. Hi Hayley! Congratulations on your engagement! After spending a summer in California, I'm continually surprised at how many connections there are between Oklahoma and the aptly named Golden State. I already miss living there... Especially today, when it's over 100 degrees outside. Loved reading your description of your pet bird! So sweet to take care of him after his accident, and how wonderful he's lived so long. Hope your semester has gotten off to a good start!

  7. Hello Hayley! Congratulations on your engagement and your upcoming graduation. It sounds like you have big and exciting changes ahead! Where in California and Texas did you live? I've lived in California for the past two summers, and I'm considering moving to Texas when I graduate. I think it's great that named your bird after a character in a book. Other than "Gone with the Wind," what are some of your favorite books? Enjoy your last semester!

  8. Wow its crazy how your doing so much for school. I been to Texas a lot but i have also wanted to go to California. It is cool how your family is so diverse. Right now, I have a brother trying to get into medical school and one who is a junior in engineer. It crazy how life manages to find its way. Does your parrot know anything else? Looking forward to hearing more of stories!

  9. Hayley, I LOVE the picture from your engagement! It is just too precious for words! Congratulations to you both! Also, I laughed when you talked about how your family is made up of doctors and nurses so of course you and your siblings are each doing something completely non-medical! It is really cool that you have a pet bird as well! I always wanted to get one growing up so I could teach him to whistle songs just like yours does! My parents were strongly opposed to the idea... Maybe I will have to try to convince them again! Thanks for sharing your story with all of us!

  10. Hey Hayley!
I look like to start off by congratulating you on your engagement! I am really happy for you! My roommate recently just got engaged as well. I love weddings!
I have been to California once. It was definitely really different from Oklahoma. Do you ever miss California? What Law schools are you hopping to get into?
I look forward to reading more your posts!

  11. Hello Hayley. I too lived in Texas for six years when I was younger. I enjoyed my time there but couldn’t imagine being anything other than a sooner! It’s great that you are a part of those organizations and even better that you feel you have made an impact on campus. Your bird sounds hilarious; I can see him now… hitting his head on the cage and whistling. Congratulations on your soon-to-be wedding and good luck in law school!

  12. First, of all, congratulations on your engagement! I can't imagine how exciting it must be! I'm still waiting on my ring to be honest haha. I've been visiting the Sacramento area for the past couple of years since my best friend is now stationed at Beale AFB and I love it there! I hope to maybe live in the area after school ends. And of course, I have lots of family in the Houston area so I always visit there. Both great places to be from. Good luck in all your endeavors!

  13. Hi, Hayley!

We share so much in common! My major is also constitutional studies and I'm also preparing for law school! Best of luck in all of the craziness of applications! :) I couldn't be more happy that your bird is named after Rhett Butler. Gone with the Wind is by far my favorite movie in the world. I want to find a way to integrate "Scarlett" or "Rhett" into my kid's names someday... hahaha

Congratulations on your engagement!! Wishing you all many years of happiness, health, and love! :)

  14. Hi Hayley,
It sounds like that you keep busy on campus. Your degree sounds like it takes a lot of work and you have a minor on top of that. It is funny that you and your brother and sister want to do things that have nothing to do with being a doctor or nurse. Good luck at law school and congratulations on your engagement!

You sound super smart and so ambitious, it’s very inspiring! I love how involved you are on campus even though you are so busy- kudos to you! Good luck in all your future endeavors!

  16. Hi Hayley, law school sounds so scary. It is interesting how you and your siblings decided to go to different fields than health, since most of your family is working in health field. I would really like to see a picture of your pet bird. Congratulations on getting engaged. It must be pretty stressful and exciting to plan a wedding. Best wishes.

  17. I was actually considering law school for a while, but decided it wasn't for me. I wish you luck with it, though! You seem very busy and involved on campus. That's so awesome! Also, congratulations on your engagement! Your engagement picture is adorable and you two look very happy. Good luck with wedding planning and law school. You seem very motivated!

  18. Hayley, congrats on the engagement! A bunch of my friends are involved on Camp Crimson. I attended as a camper, and had a blast! I love your commitment to your favorite artist, that’s awesome you got to see him in concert! I wish you the best of luck in your law school application… I know that’s an exciting and sometimes slightly stressful process. Best of luck, and thanks for sharing!

  19. Hola Hayley! Como Estas?
Congrats on the engagement and I wish nothing but the best for you and your husband and your future. It seems like you are juggling a lot with preparing for law school, a marriage, and finishing school in December. Just think we will be graduating in 41 days, I counted today. But good luck with everything.

  20. It sounds like you really have things together if you are able to balance planning a wedding and applying to law school at the same time! That’s great you are so close to graduating too, I am a senior as well but I do not graduate until May. I too am from Texas, the greatest state in the country. Good luck with starting law school and getting your wedding planned!

  21. Hi Hayley! You must be so excited to be this close to the end of your last semester! I'm also a graduating senior, and I know that I'm definitely ready to be away from classes for awhile. I hope your wedding plans are going well. A lot of my friends got married over the summer and I know they were all pretty stressed about getting everything in order.

  22. Hey Hayley! I think it's great how involved you are with the college and that you're making big plans for your future. I can't imagine how you have enough time to do everything! Graduating, law school, and a wedding? That's crazy. Though I have to say that my favorite part of your introduction is your pet bird, he sounds hilarious!
